Gonzales: From the Frying Pan…

The Administration has facilitated and implicitly condoned torture under the legal advice and cover of Alberto Gonzales – and yet all I hear is that Gonzales is expected to be questioned vigorously and then confirmed. Basically he’s a boot-licking Bush loyalist back from days o Texas – just going to show that there is potential for both good and evil in all races, all backgrounds, all religions, yada yada. The most diverse Cabinet….

Bait n Switch puts the current issue about torture – which incidentally is the worst PR about America even maybe ever worse than the war itself in the eyes of the rest of the world – this way

“What Mr. Gonzales thinks of torture is different than what you and I think of it. When the everyday notion of torture — inflicting severe physical or psychological pain as a means of punishment or coercion — is inconvenient, Mr. Gonzales simply changes the government’s definition so only organ failure and death are included. Bamboo poles under the fingernails? Water boarding (in which a prisoner is led to believe he could drown)? Sexual humiliation? Threats with vicious animals? Those, to Mr. Gonzales, are not torture.”

He’s a great guy in other ways too – check into the record number of executions in Texas, and what Mr. Gonzales chose to delete from attention, or how he handled clemency requests – like when DNA proved innocence.
