Ben and I awoke well before dawn. Was it 5? 6? We had some hot chocolate Ovaltine and waited just as long as we could before attacking John. “It’s Christmas! Get up!” Hug attack!
The big present for the house will be a result of the January sales – either a comfty couch for the tv room, or a nice bedframe (cherry sleigh bed?).
It look much longer than I thought it would to sand and paint the front stairs. I finished with the fading twilight, and it felt so good to stretch and survey my work. I’m sooooo sore! I should have done all of this in the spring.
Molly got tired out just watching. She snuck into the bedroom and she looked so cute we didn’t have the heart to kick her out.
I’ll sleep well tonight, but I’ll still have grey-spattered hands for work tomorrow. Forgot to get paint remover.
Every summer, at least one mama tortoise finds her way to our yard to lay her eggs. Every time I’ve seen this, it’s been raining. Maybe it makes the clay easier to dig. This year, I spotted her during the digging phase. She picked a tough place to do it, all among some old landscaping pebbles buried down against flooding.
After grabbing a few photographs, I left her alone to do what she was there to do. She’ll be gone by morning. So far, I’ve never seen the little ones hatch – maybe they do that in the rain, too.
As promised, here is my favorite superhero – UNDERDOG!!! Thank you Danny!
Want an Underdog of your own? Or have some other nostalgic craving? It just so happens that the store is in the family! Check out Retrospect Dry Goods (it’s fantastic!!) and tell Lisa that Heidi sent you! She’ll be even more tickled than when I relieved her during the volleyball game. If you happen to be near Monument Colorado, stop in and do a little dance – but if not, you can still order lots of cool stuff from the website: http://www.retrospectdrygoods.com/
Now, back to our regularly-scheduled program. A photo of Underdog isn’t enough, I know, so… enjoy!
There’s no need to fear! Underdog is here!
When criminals in this world appear
and break the laws that they should fear
and frighten all who see or hear
the cry goes up both far and near
for Underdog! Underdog!
Underdog! Underdog!
Speed of lightning, roar of thunder
fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog (aaaaaa-aaaa-aaaaaaaaaaaah) Underdog!
Underdog!
When in this world the headlines read
of those whose hearts are filled with greed
who rob and steal from those who need
to right this wrong with blinding speed
goes Underdog! Underdog!
Underdog! Underdog!
Speed of lightning, roar of thunder
fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog (aaaaaa-aaaa-aaaaaaaaaaaah) Underdog!
UNDERDOG!
