Most Beautiful Song for the New Year

Regina Spektor – My Dear Acquaintance (A Happy New Year)

My dear acquaintance, it’s so good to know you
For strength of your hand
That is loving and giving
And a happy new year
With love overflowing
With joy in our hearts
For the blessed new year

Raise your glass and we’ll have a cheer
For us all who are gathered here
And a happy new year to all that is living
To all that is gentle, kind, and forgiving
Raise your glass and we’ll have a cheer
My dear acquaintance, a happy new year

All of those who are hither and yonder
With love in our hearts
We grow fonder and fonder
Hail to those who we hold so dear
And hail to those who are gathered here

And a happy new year to all that is living
To all that is gentle, young, and forgiving
Raise your glass and we’ll have a cheer
My dear acquaintance, a happy new year
Happy new year

Dark Moon, New Moon, Lunar Samhain

Dark Moon, New Moon, Lunar Samhain

Traditionally, this is time to relinquish the hold of the past year and begin to dream the new year.

Good timing.

There are all sorts of performative enactments to help you to let go of all the things that you want to discard, and envision – or open yourself to a vision – of how you want the new year to be.

It will be very dark tonight, a good transition point. New projects and new thoughts emerge from darkness.

It works for me today. I’m such a mystic anyway….

My score on The Literary Style Test:

Franz Kafka
(Your Literary Style Is 16% Realistic, 83% Philosophical, and 66% Psychological!)

Franz Kafka’s literary style is so distinct that an adjective has been coined from his name to describe similar styles. That adjective is “kafkaesque”. Your own writing, obviously, is kafkaesque. Kafka wrote very strange, horrifying stories. His most famous novella involves the transformation of a man into a giant insect. His works are not only fantastic and symbolic, but they are often very philsophical and thought provoking. Many of his stories are allegorical or metaphorical, focusing on the nature of spirituality and the absurdity of life. Not only that, but his work is often intensely cerebral, delving deep into the minds of his characters and examining their psychology and the motivations for their actions. Your writing follows Kafka’s example by being highly philosophical, psychological, and surrealistic.

Some stories you may enjoy: “The Metamorphasis”, The Castle, The Trial, and “A Hunger Artist”.

The other literary styles: Edgar Allan Poe / Jorge Luis Borges / George Orwell / F. Scott Fitzgerald / Fyodor Dostoevsky / Herman Melville / Albert Camus
