Blog Changes

Blog Changes

Ok – I think I’ve got the basic template tweaked enough for now. I’ve added ratings and a post readers count.

If you weren’t able to access the blog yesterday, it’s because I lost all my previous changes to the template when I upgraded my version of WordPress. What a pain. When I downloaded the backup, it was somehow in the wrong format. I basically had to cut and past sections into Notepad and edit each template page by hand.

There are still some troubled bits of script that I want to display, but there’s quite a lot going on right now (including baby kitty care) so I’ll see how this works for a bit. I’ve got a new page that lists my plug-ins, and I really like the new contact form.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments, using the blog commenting system or the contact form.

Using a New WordPress Theme

Using a New WordPress Theme

Again, I’ve grown bored with my WordPress theme. Until such time as I have the time and energy to design my own, I’m just using a modified version of the Remember theme by Becca Wei. I’m still customizing it for my content, so check back in a day or so. You might have to refresh the page if you’ve visited recently.

I’ve got the image I want now for the header, but there are some buggy bits of the footer and sidebar, and I’ve lost the tag display on each post, as well as my guidelines for comments. Please play nice while I get all that fixed.

Adding Tags on Posts

Adding Tags on Posts

I’m trying again to add tags to my posts. So far, the categories are acting like tags, but I wanted more of a cross-reference on specific topics.

I’m using a WordPress plugin called Ultimate Tag Warrior.

Unfortunately I’ve now got to add the tags to over a thousand posts, so I’ll be working backward, adding them in as I have time. I’ve added a “tag cloud” to the footer of the page, and each post will have site-linked tags. I may also add Technorati tags at some future point. I’m not sure how the tag page that has been added to the sidebar is meant to be integrated, but I’ll figure it out soonest.

Sorry Bloglet Subscribers

Sorry Bloglet Subscribers

To my Bloglet subscribers – I am so sorry for the missing posts.

The Bloglet code didn’t play nice with the WordPress installation, and I didn’t get response to requests for help. Luckily, WordPress has great support options, and there I was able to find the missing information that I needed. For future reference, and for the benefit of WordPress 1.5 users who use Bloglet for subscriptions, here is a working settings format at Bloglet.

weblog title: (name of your site)
weblog url: (url of your site)
weblog id: (leave blank)
username: (leave blank)
password: (leave blank)
server: (yourblog.com/feed/rss)
weblog type: (RSS)
enabled (check)
hide this blog (uncheck)
email setting (set to your liking)

It looks really simple, doesn’t it? But the server information eluded me. I tried an awfully lot of different possibilities…
